The Amos Plant is owned by American Electric and is located in Putnam County, WV. American Electric and Allegheny Power are proposing to run a 276 mile high voltage transmission line through mostly rural WV in order to carry dirty energy to northern states who do not even want the electricity.
The Amos plant is one of the dirtiest plants in the nation. American Electric and Allegheny Power have been sued multiple times by multiple states and organizations because of their dirty coal fired plants. These plants increase emissions have a negative effect on the health of the people living around the plants and also states that are downwind of us.
The PATH (Potomac Appalachian Transmission Highline) was approved by PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission router, however, PJM does not have the appropriate "load forecast" that even warrant such a project.
Allegheny Energy and American Electric are trying to get the state of WV to declare them as public utilities so that they can declare eminent domain on the land of private property owners. If the PATH project is approved, it will bring on 6-8 new coal fired plants in addition to more toxic output from the Amos Plant.
FERC (the Federal Energy Regulatory Committee) is asking the Obama Administration for more power so that they can veto a state rejection of the power company proposal and run the line through anyway. They essentially are trying to take control away from the state. So, I ask you, who really is in charge of America?
